Bed sheets are rectangular shaped cloth specially designed to cover mattress and people sleeping on it. They are of two main varieties likewise flat and fitted bed sheets. A flat bed sheet is the one which is simply in rectangular shape whereas the fitted bed sheet has two or four sided corners for fitting the mattress and can be used only to spread on the bed. The corners are rounded off with elastic so that it expands and fit the mattress. These fitted bed sheets are mostly used as they prevent the slipping off the mattress when it is in use by the sleepers.
When the flat bed sheet is used, people tuck or fold the sheet in such a way that it does not easily disturb from the mattress. The bed sheets are usually coupled with a pair of pillow covers which are used to cover the pillows. When people spread the sheet on bed, usually they make sure that the designed face of the bed sheet is exposed and the rougher part is folded back. Bed sheets can be made of different materials like cotton, linen, satin, silk, rayon, etc. Even there are disposable bed sheets which are used in hotels and hospitals.
Traditional bedding made of natural materials and other modern bedding techniques keeps people warm on a cold night. High thread count bed sheets made of cotton or linen, mid weight woolen bed sheet or micro fiber bed sheets are widely used on cold nights and even the woolen down comforters are also used on the winter nights to shield from the biting cold. Some people insulate themselves by using a wool mattress topper and then cover the topper with a high quality linen bed sheet or cotton fitted bed sheet and then with a flat bed sheet to have warm sleep.
High thread count or the natural fiber bed sheets wicks off the moisture from the skin and these are also easier to wash and dry when compared to other thickened bed sheets. Bed sheets for winter are a combination of 2-3 layers of toppers covered one on the other to provide insulation. While people sleep, normally their body temperature drops, so they need to remain cool to fall asleep yet warm enough to mot wake up in the middle of the freezing night. Other commonly used bed sheets are the flannel sheets.
Flannel is a kind of cotton bed sheet with little variation, which is softer, cozier during the winter. It is advisable to have a look on the fluff of the sheet is not loose while purchasing the flannel sheets as the thread count is less.
